Dyna Glo Smart Space Gas Grill

Design and Construction:

A stainless steel construction and minimal footprint distinguishes this cabinet-style grill, which is equipped with two side shelves for storage. The hood, control panel, and cabinet door are all silver in color, while the rest of the unit is black.

A set of small wheels is affixed to the base. Grilling gates are constructed of porcelain-coated cast iron. This is a sturdily built model with a double-walled lid to aid in heat retention.

Usability:

The quick push-button start allows this grill to fire up within seconds, while the porcelain-enameled cast iron grates provide superb grill marks. The unit features 390 square inches of primary cooking space, but the warming rack offers an additional 117 square inches, making this a good fit for singles or couples.

Dyna Glo took extra care with the burner construction for this model. All three of the burners are made of commercial-grade stainless steel, with a set of steel heat tents to provide an extra layer of protection. This helps to lock in the juices for grilled meats, ensuring that the meal will be cooked to mouthwatering perfection.

The double-walled lid includes a built-in thermometer, which should come in handy during low-and-slow cooking applications such as smoking and braising. The side shelves are equipped with tool hooks and a towel bar for added convenience. In all, this is a well-appointed unit that comes together easily and takes up very little patio space.

Features:

Pros

  • Easy to assemble
  • Small footprint
  • Locking casters on wheels
  • Superb temperature control
  • Durable construction

Cons

  • Grease tray is made of lower-quality materials than the rest of the unit
  • Requires a fair amount of maintenance

Dyna Glo Dual Zone Charcoal Stainless Grill

Design and Construction:

This is an oversized cart-style grill with a silver barrel-shaped cooking chamber and firebox. The rest of the unit is black in color, featuring a low basket and two side shelves for storage.

Two large wheels are affixed to the left-hand side, while the right-hand side features a pair of locking casters. Dyna Glo utilizes a stainless steel construction for this dual zone charcoal-fueled unit. A removable divider splits the cooking box into two sections.

Usability:

The dual-sided firebox is one of the most convenient aspects of this grill. Although the cooking space offers a grand total of 816 square inches, it’s not necessary to build a giant fire if you’re only cooking for a few people. Similarly, it’s possible to grill several ingredients at once, even if they need to cook at different temperatures. This gives the unit a versatility that helps to justify its enormous size.

The primary cooking surface offers 576 square inches, while the remaining 240 inches can be found on the secondary warming rack. Double-walled construction on the lid and firebox helps to boost heat retention while keeping fuel costs relatively low.

We also appreciate the generous capacity of the ash pan, which can be easily removed for a quick cleanup. If the unit has a drawback, it involves the construction of the charcoal trays and ash pan, which are on the chintzy side. These elements are prone to rusting, especially if they’re neglected for months at a time. We would recommend careful maintenance to ensure that the grill remains functional for as long as possible.

Pros

  • Base and cooking chamber are sturdily constructed
  • Generous amount of grilling space
  • Can be used as a smoker
  • Affordable price point
  • Removable divider allows users to customize the surface area

Cons

  • Charcoal trays need frequent replacement
  • Exterior is prone to rusting if it isn’t covered properly (cover sold separately)

Dyna Glo Black Charcoal Grill

Design and Construction:

This is another cart-style charcoal grill from Dyna Glo, and a handsome one at that. The grill is black in color, with just a single charcoal tray instead of a dual-zone construction.

The twin shelves and lower basket-style compartment are ideal for storing condiments and extra fuel. Like most grills in the Dyna Glo lineup, this one offers a steel construction with porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates.

Usability:

With 816 square inches of cooking space, this is an enormous grill—suitable for large families or anyone who likes to entertain. The main cooking area offers 576 square inches, but the second shelf increases the capacity by another 240. This is an ideal setup for grilling numerous burgers or hot dogs at once, as the second shelf can be used to warm the buns while the meat sizzles beneath.

A handy adjustment crank allows you to raise the charcoal tray higher when more heat is required, and to lower it when the fire is too hot. If you need to reload the charcoal or stoke the fire during cooking, the steel door you easy access to the firebox.

There’s an adjustable flue on the smoke stack, which gives you even more control over the temperature. The lid also has a built-in thermometer for tracking the progress of the fire. Even better, the cooking grates hold their heat well and help the food retain that unique char-broiled flavor.

Features:

Materials

Steel, porcelain-enameled cast iron

Total Cooking Space

816 square inches

Pros

  • Allows for excellent temperature control
  • Plenty of cooking space
  • Reasonable price point
  • Cooking grates provide great heat retention

Cons

  • Coals may take a long time to die down after use
  • Steel used in base is on the thin side
  • Some shipping issues reported

Dyna Glo Dual Fuel Grill

Design and Construction:

As the name suggests, this cabinet-style grill is outfitted with both a charcoal-fueled side and a gas-fired compartment. Both sides feature silver lids, while the rest of the unit is black in color.

The burners for the gas grill are fashioned of commercial-grade stainless steel, while both sets of cooking grates feature a porcelain-enameled cast iron construction. A nifty silver bottle opener is located between the two cooking chambers.

Usability:

Because we appreciate the instant gratification provided by gas grills but also enjoy the flavor that only a charcoal fire can provide, we think this unit is well worth the price.

An adjustable charcoal tray gives you a remarkable degree of control over the temperature on that side, while the pulse ignition system allows you to fire up the gas-fueled jets in an instant. In addition, the grilling grates are well constructed and durable, helping to lock in the food’s natural juices during cooking.

The Dual Fuel model offers a grand total of 952 square inches over both surfaces, which is more than sufficient for larger groups. The two gas burners are individually controlled and crank out 12,000 BTUs each.

If you’re going to be cooking a lot of food at once, we would recommend reserving the charcoal side for grilling meats and using the gas-powered jets for side dishes, such as vegetables and flatbreads.

Assembling this grill is somewhat time-consuming, but we’ve found this to be typical for combination units such as this one. As long as all the pieces are in good shape upon arrival, this grill should hold up to many seasons of frequent use. Note that the shipment arrives in two boxes—make sure both packages have arrived before attempting to put the grill together.

Features:

Fuel Type

Charcoal, Gas

Weight

48 pounds

Heat Output

24,000 BTUs (gas)

Total Cooking Space

952 square inches

Pros

  • Versatile unit
  • Plenty of cooking space
  • User-friendly
  • Clear instructions
  • Turns out consistently impressive results

Cons

  • Assembly can be time-consuming, especially for one person
  • Some shipping issues reported
  • Charcoal side isn’t well-suited to long cooking applications

Dyna Glo 5 Burner Gas Grill

Design and Construction:

This is a sturdy cart-style unit, offering a stainless steel construction and porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates. The base and two oversized wheels are black, while the cooking chamber, control panel, side burner, and shelf all showcase the natural steel color.

Although there are 5 burners in all, the footprint is impressively small. Two oversized wheels lend maneuverability to the unit, while cleverly designed fixtures on the opposite legs allow it to remain stable once it’s in place.

Usability:

This model boasts a generous heat output of 72,000 over 5 burners, with each one cranking out 12,000 BTUs apiece. One of these burners is located off to the side of the main cooking chamber, making it a good choice for heating sauces or sides. Each burner is constructed of commercial-grade stainless steel for longevity and added heat retention.

The left-hand side of the grill is equipped with a small shelf for storage. There’s also a built-in bottle opener, inviting grillers to use the shelf to hold a couple of cold ones while they cook. The unit is well-built and easy to put together, even if you’ve never assembled a grill before. If you’re in the market for a propane-fueled model that delivers a great deal of firepower, then this could be the grill for you.

Features:

Pros

FAQ

Where are Dyna Glo grills manufactured?

Dyna Glo is a subsidiary of GHP Group, which manufactures electric fireplaces and other portable heating products in addition to barbecue grills. Most of their products—including Dyna Glo grills—are constructed in China.

Is Dyna Glo a good brand to buy?

Dyna Glo grills have a number of good qualities that work in their favor. For starters, they’re quite affordable, especially when compared to some other leading brands. Most units are also easy to put together, even for novices.

Dyna Glo units tend to have relatively small footprints, so they’re a good choice for smaller yards or patios. Their impressive heat retention turns out consistently tasty results.

On the downside, these grills aren’t built to last more than a few years at most. While it’s possible to extend their shelf life by giving them the proper care, the materials used in their construction are of noticeably lower quality than some of the competition. Buyers should be prepared to replace their grill—or at least select parts of the grill—every 3 years or so when buying from Dyna Glo.

What fuel types are available for Dyna Glo grills?

The company offers several different types—propane, natural gas, and charcoal. Some units might even have a dual-zone function, featuring a combination of charcoal and either gas or propane. These units are prized for their versatility, but they also require two different types of maintenance, which can be time-consuming.

Dyna Glo also manufactures a line of smokers, which are well-suited to long cooking applications. These models might be fueled by charcoal, LP gas, or electricity. Note that these units also require wood chips to impart that intense smoky flavor.

What is the warranty for Dyna Glo grills?

Dyna Glo includes a one-year limited warranty with most gas grill purchases, with an additional 5-year warranty in place for the stainless steel burners. Buyers should be forewarned that the one-year warranty only covers the cost of replacements for parts that are missing or damaged. If the parts suffered wear and tear due to regular use (which includes heat exposure), they’re not covered by the warranty.
